Want to apply for a more senior role ? Some useful resources to get prepared 👇

If you are an experienced professional who aspires to apply for a more senior strategic role, preparing yourself to show up as such candidate is needed.

In this post, you will find some useful resources to review : your pitch, your CV and your Linkedin profile.

1/ Pitch / self-introduction

It helps to have a brief pitch ready if you have an opportunity to introduce yourself, even if you can still adapt the pitch in the moment.

If you apply this to you, it can look something like that :

“I’m Phil, I have over 20 years of experience in the energy sector. My passion is leading complex, cross-functional initiatives, translating ambitious strategies into actionable roadmaps. Most recently, I led / contributed to a €X Mn (some “numbers” if you have) energy project that was delivered, addressing the needs from different stakeholders (an example of your key achievements)

I thrive on breaking down complex problems, aligning diverse teams to drive results.

As I’m considering evolving my career in Asia, I’m eager to bring my expertise in strategic execution with stakeholders management to an organization committed to shaping the future of energy. I would be happy to have a conversation with you about how contributions I can bring can support your team/mission?”

Please adjust with your personality… and rehearse to make it yours.

2/ CV upgrade :

There are few examples you may find here : https://himalayas.app/resumes/energy-consultant

Basically for senior roles, it’s about highlighting :

a “leading” role you took (ex: “led”, “managed”, “conducted”… using those types of verbs) at a strategic level (ex: program implementation in different countries, complex project management accross functions…).

driving results (some numbers that give an idea of the scope you lead : growth, economy…)

dealing with different stakeholders who have different interests/agenda and how you managed to understand and align them, to make things happen (ex: “facilitated”, “led consultations”…).

3/ Linkedin profile :

Some practical tips here to start with : https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/guide-linkedin-profile-optimization-senior-executives-arborexec-4weyc/

You can also get some inspiration from people who have the kind of roles you want. I’m not sure about the type of job content you target. If you look for specific examples, feel free to reach out to me. You may also want to check people you know (among previous managers or colleagues, etc..).

Besides the professional picture, you can also see if you want/can collect recommendations and endorsements from colleagues and stakeholders to reinforce your credibility in the field 😉

I hope that was useful. If you have any comments or questions, let me know !
